So basically 24 HOURS is an event that has been held at CSULB for the past 5 years by our lovely Associate Professor of Animation Aubry Mintz. At first it was just a crazy thing that Aubry and his students joked about, but it has become this amazing opportunity for over 150 animation students in California.
This event is VERY official now. There are judges from Dreamworks, Walt Disney, and Nickelodeon animation studios with CTN sponsoring. I’m not sure what the top prizes were however everyone who placed would have their video shown at CTN Expo in November. We even had visiting guest Eric Robles creator of Fanboy and Chum Chum as well as a Nick recruiter. This is AMAZING. This began as a small competition within a niche group of the animation department at CSULB, and for the first time this year it opened up to include CSUF, CSUN, San Jose State, Kendall College, and Academy of Art University for a whopping 33 teams nine of which were from CSULB.
So competition was high this year and quality had to go wayyyyy up. In the past you could place with a pencil test, but this year you needed to have colored animation at least. Despite barely standing a chance, especially as I am a freshman who has barely any animation experience and has not taken any formal animation classes, this was an amazing experience. I learned soooo much in only 24 hours.
Here’s a video from Aubry basically summing everything up: http://vimeo.com/8732466
